Hey, world!
I will be honest with myself here - I'm not super confident in front of the camera. I've watched hours and hours of YouTube videos where creators convey their ideas confidently, easily, and with what seems to be immaculate memory. I CAN NOT do THAT shit... yet :) It's so hard for me at the moment. I tried to create videos where I recreate my blog posts in video format, and I just sound unnatural or go blank.
Keeping up with my theme of keeping things easy, simple, and feeling good. I've just decided to summarize the tips of my YouTube videos in easy, simple, and feel-good (for me) blog posts!
I'll still post my usual blogs as they come to me, but I'm excited to try this new format to drive people to get to know me in a different medium. As always, I am going to start simple and allow myself to grow in learning new skills and new pathways - here I come, speaking coach classes!
Until I'm a world-class speaker, here's my first post to supplement my YouTube video on 'Dealing with Existential Dread.'
Here are the tips:
Reframe your mindset
There is so much to be grateful for in life. Instead of being overcome by the existence of all the negative, the seeming rat race we are in, and the inevitable truth that we're all going to be dust one day, focus on 'the now' and what you can be grateful for today.
Ground yourself
To me, existential dread is your mind wandering off into space, asking what the meaning of all this is. The answer? Who knows? And honestly, who cares? it doesn't change what is happening and that you are here and have to be here in this moment. So, why not ground yourself and your mind, literally? Feel the ground underneath you; appreciate it. Feel the air filling your lungs; appreciate that. Hear your breathing, the outside, or your loved ones, and appreciate that. Ground yourself in your senses and everything around you.
Change your Vocabulary
This is a part of shifting your mindset, but using words like 'can't, don't, and won't' is simply unhelpful. I even caught myself doing this earlier. Adding words and phrases to your vocabulary like 'yet, at this time, at this moment, or right now' gives you room to grow. It's a part of a growth mindset that says maybe not now but in the future. That sets you up to take action to make change and grow!
