I'm having a... business!

Total transparency here: I'm having a business!

Let me elaborate. For the past eight months, I've been blogging, vlogging, working on an online course (check it out here), researching, investing, and consulting in all things finance. For all intents and purposes, it feels like I spent the last eight months preparing for a child. Ok, I need you to suspend belief a little here because I know bringing life into this world isn't the same as starting a business... But isn't it just as important if it's one of my life goals?

When I was employed full-time, a piece of me always felt a little resentment when I heard coworkers say: "I'm having a baby," and subsequently go on leave, dropping their workloads onto my plate. I don't resent people having babies at all. Good for them! What I resented was the time, the time they were getting away from FTE to devote attention to their life outside of it. They were saying "I'm taking a leave to devote my time to my family," So, why couldn't I say, "I'm going on leave to devote my time to my business idea"? That question made me realize I didn't need permission to do what I wanted. I just needed to take the leap.

As entrepreneurs, business owners, dreamers, whatever, we often have to find the support, motivation and belief inside ourselves. Sometimes, we don't have the safety net, outright congratulations, or even the support that we need. This can make it difficult to develop self-motivation, that voice telling you this is a great idea and you can and should do it.

One thing that has helped me is the meetup group I started—You Go Girl! Women Goal Getters. It's so helpful to be around other people in the same boat—they maybe in different stages, but they get it nonetheless. Your journey as an entrepreneur is not going to make sense to everyone. It won't be the main topic of all conversation at the family dinner table. However, opening that avenue to discussion is essential to growing and keeping the motivation to make a business succeed.

So, for all my other entrepreneurs out there. Here is the kind word you need to keep going. Take that leave, quit that job, and prioritize what you are passionate about!

If you are interested in helping me out with research for my team's business concept, take our survey here and stay tuned for the concept to become reality very soon :)

As always, here's to the journey!
